The LPC would like to alert contractors in South Tyneside that GP's will be starting to prescribe Longtec and Shortec brands of Oxycodone MR in place of Oxycontin. It has been included as part of their newly released quality in prescribing scheme.
Pharmacies may wish to adjust their stock holding accordingly to ensure patients are able to get the products prescribed and wastage in the pharmacy is reduced to a minimum. It is not a direct switch of current prescriptions however any newly initiated patients who are suitable may be started on the new brands.
