 From next month, the NHS Business Services Authority will start undertaking post-payment verification of payments to contractors for provision of the Medicines Use Review (MUR) service. This will involve requesting evidence from a sample of contractors to support payment claims they have submitted for MURs over a specified period.
The evidence requested will be the signed patient consent forms for the service that correspond to the payment claims made. Selected contractors will be asked to submit the requested forms with their next monthly prescription bundle. Learn more about the process at the PSNC website

 Pharmacies need to review/update their Whistleblowing Policies by the end of September in line with NHS England guidance. The updated guidance now requires pharmacies to appoint a Freedom to Speak Up Guardian which is an independent person that staff can contact in confidence if they have any concerns.

Gateshead and South Tyneside LPC is pleased to announce that we have negotiated a Flu Vaccination Voucher Service with Gateshead Council. The Service is funded by the Council and is to allow for eligible Council staff (those presenting with a Voucher) to be privately vaccinated in the pharmacy.

Don’t forget all the flu detail you need is available on the PSNC Website. You need to make sure you complete your declaration at the NHSBSA informing them that you plan to offer the service. This can be done by clicking here. Also don't forget to complete your Declaration of competence. The training that you completed earlier will help you to complete this. The Declaration of competence can be found on the CPPE website. Pharmoutcomes is also available to help you manage the service and produce letters for the GP's. If a GP has an email in the system the notification will go by email automatically. CCG Information supplied by Steve Kirk (Clinical Director for Delivery Newcastle Gateshead CCG) Flu Vaccine uptake in people aged under 65 with respiratory disease has historically been low despite the extra risk of complications and admissions that this group faces, see fig. 1  General Practices struggle to persuade Asthmatic aged under 65 to attend for review, preventative advice or for Flu Vacs. The CCG would like local pharmacies and practices to prioritise people under 65 with respiratory disease in their Flu Vac campaign for 17/18.
People with respiratory benefit from having flu vaccination which reduces risk of hospitalisation, having time off work and death” Please could Pharmacies target patients taking Steroid, LABA or LAMA Inhalers and offer them a Flu Vac when they attend to pick up medications or inhalers.  The LPC is aware of the supply and pricing problems currently being experience across the country. PSNC are working on this as a matter of urgency.
We understand that the Dispensing & Supply Team at PSNC is are fully occupied dealing with concession prices. In order to make the system work they need feedback from contractors on the prices they are paying for product trading at above the Drug Tariff price using the forms on their website, which allows them to gather the data needed to make evidenced applications to the Dept of Health for concession prices. Contractors can use forms, which can be found on the concession price page on the PSNC website. http://psnc.org.uk/dispensing-supply/supply-chain/generic-shortages/ Please don't contact the PSNC by telephone as this delays the process. Please use the website. Once price concessions are agreed, the PSNC website will be updated and emails sent out.  South Tyneside Council are working on new the PNA (Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment) for South Tyneside . The PNA is an important document for pharmacy contractors as it it is used to plan services and inform pharmacy contract applications.
It is essential that the council have accurate information about pharmacies in the area to ensure an accurate PNA is produced. Each Pharmacy must provide this information to the council and to make this easier they are collecting it electronically via PHARMOUTCOMES. A new module should now be available for you to fill. This will be located with all the other services when you log in. Please make sure you fill this in for your pharmacy. If you feel you are unable to fill this in for your pharmacy please make sure your manager / area manager / owner is aware of this email and the need to fill in this questionaire. The council have asked this to be done in the next 2 weeks so the deadline is 20th September 2017 however we would encourage you to do this straight away and not leave it to the last minute. Patient Questionnaire As part of the PNA the council would like to gauge public opinion. They are doing this via a number of routes and have asked if Pharmacies will be willing to print 10 of the questionnaires and put them on the counter.
