Changes to prescribing of Glucose Monitoring Machines, Strips and Needles in South Tyneside16/10/2014 ![]() In August 2014 a review of Glucose Testing Strips and Diabetic Pen Needles was conducted by South Tyneside CCG and Foundation Trust in order to recommend what was felt to be the most cost effective range of products for patients. The outcome of the review has now been approved by the joint Medicines Management Committee. This review has been supported by NHS South Tyneside Trust Diabetes Service Consultants and Specialist Nurses, GPs, Pharmacists and patient representatives who provided their expertise and endorsement during the process. The Consultants and Specialist Nurses have hands on experience of all the recommended meters and have agreed to only supply these recommended meters to patients, unless there is an assessed need to do otherwise on an individual case basis. The chosen products are as follows.
Practices in South Tyneside will soon be moving over to these products and Community Pharmacist are advised to start reducing their stocks of other test strips, needles and meters. so they are not left with over stocks. Below is guide to the Range that will be used. ![]() Money Matters, the Gateshead Financial Inclusion Partnership (GFIP), aims to tackle financial exclusion by helping to equip residents to access clear advice, information and guidance. The impact of welfare reform has affected people both in and out of work. As families begin to struggle financially, many feel that taking on credit is the only way to make ends meet, with a third of all families having to borrow money to pay for essentials for their children in the last year. In this environment the growth of illegal lending has continued to rise across the UK. The partnership is working with the England Illegal Money Lending Team (IMLT),to run a month long campaign in November to highlight what ‘loan sharks’ are, how to report them and what support is available to victims. During the week commencing the 24th Nov, we will be piloting a more intensive activity in Felling, Deckham and Bensham, if successful we will be rolling this out to other parts of the borough. For those pharmacy’s in the pilot areas we are offering training to front line staff, free IMLT resources such as posters, leaflets and free pharmacy bags If you would like to know more about the campaign or be involved please contact Judith Broder the CouncilsFinancial Inclusion Co-ordinator on 433 2037 or by email [email protected] |
