The PGD's for EHC services in Gateshead and South Tyneside services are expiring.  Both Gateshead Council and South Tyneside Council have updated their PGD's and have distributed them slightly differently.  Please read below the section related to your council area and ensure you download the relevant PGD's to continue to offer the service.

Gateshead Council

Gateshead council recently contacted all providers of the EHC service in Gateshead  via Pharmoutcomes.  The message included the PGD however you can also download it from the Gateshead EHC service page on the GST LPC website.
http://www.gandstlpc.net/ehc-gateshead.html

Please note that the new PGD includes the new requirements for pharmacists which will come into effect in March 2017 and includes the replacement of a DBS check with the confirmation that an annual GPHC fitness to practice declaration has been made as well as the use of  a declaration of competence  via CPPE.

Any queries regarding the Gateshead service should be directed to David Brady

davidbrady@gateshead.gov.uk   or  0191 433 3147

South Tyneside Council

South Tyneside Foundation trust is managing the service on behalf of the Council and have asked us to distribute the information including PGD'S and contracts to pharmacies.

You can access full details and documents at our South Tyneside EHC service page.

We have been contacted recently by a number of pharmacists querying access to a private PGD for this year’s flu season for pharmacists who have not been required to attend face to face training in 2016.  Pharmacists are free to use Private PGD's to provide private vaccinations however they can not provide them using the NHS PGD.  You will need to source your a Private PGD.   Those who attended the LPC Commisioned Flu training with the QE Hospital last year will recentley have been contacted about using the QE PGD this years for private vacciantions.

If you did not train with the QE you will need to use abother provider.    There is a list of Flu training providers on the PSNC website.

This year the LPC worked with the NPA to offer training.  This training included a face to face option as well as a refresher training both of which will provide a Private PGD.  Unfortunalty all our face to face training is now complete however the refresher training is still avaivlbel which will be suitable if you trained last year and are looking gain a private PGD this year.  Full details of this refresher training is below.

NPA Training

The NPA is providing on line refresher training to pharmacists in the NE, the cost per pharmacist (for NPA members and non-members) is £23 plus VAT. The criteria for eligibility to this refresher training is:

  1. The pharmacist must have successfully administered 30 or more vaccines during the previous flu season, AND
  2. Has successfully completed an accredited, face-to-face, seasonal flu training course (vaccination techniques, basic life support, anaphylaxis management) within the last 12 months, and has a certificate for this; AND
  3. The pharmacist must complete online training modules on vaccination techniques, anaphylaxis management and influenza; AND
  4. The pharmacist must sign a declaration to confirm that they are trained, confident and competent to offer the service including treatment of anaphylaxis and resuscitation techniques

What’s included

  • Online learning + assessment + certificate on vaccination techniques, management of anaphylaxis and influenza included – all must be completed by each pharmacist
  • Private  PGDs for: general influenza vaccination, Fluenz Tetra, Intanza, Tamiflu, adrenaline and hepatitis B

Next steps

If you meet the requirements of criteria 1 and 2 above and want to access the NPA online refresher training please contact the PGD Services at the NPA at n.pgdservices@npa.co.uk or telephone 01727 858687  Ext 3206. To qualify for the rate of £23.00 plus VAT you must inform the NPA that you have been signposted to them by NE LPCs.
