Community pharmacies are well placed to assist with delivering this agenda.
Working with Newcastle hospitals we have developed a small service for South Tyneside pharmacies, whereby we will deliver a blood spot test on our substance misuse/needle exchange patients.
This sample is then sent by post to the laboratory for testing. The result is communicated back to the pharmacy and the pharmacist will then inform their patient and sign post for treatment if required.
The remuneration to the pharmacy is £25 for the intervention and participating patients will receive up to £25 of Gregg's vouchers as an incentive. This client group have been surveyed and this is their choice of voucher!
Our LPC are looking for expression of interest from South Tyneside pharmacies that are actively delivering supervised services or needle exchange services.
