In light of the current surge pressures the Department of Health have asked for the CAS alert sent on 16th December 2014 regarding the use of antivirals (copy below) to be recirculated to all Trusts, GPs and hospital / community pharmacies as a matter of urgency with the following note:
Please note the attached alert regarding the use of antiviral medicines. During the sustained winter pressures, prompt use of oseltamivir may reduce duration of flu and possibly reduce the need for hospitalisation.
It is recommended that reasonable supplies to be held in stock at this time.
Please ensure you act on this alert and circulate as necessary within your own structures / organisations.
