I went to a really useful meeting of the North East Pharmacy Forum recently. The speaker, Dr Keith Freeman, the Senior Dermatologist at City Hospitals Sunderland gave us an interesting account of the way that prolonged sun exposure can damage skin leading to sunburn, prickly heat, actinic keratosis and cancer... |
Dr Freeman asked the audience what amount of sunscreen he should take away for a 10 day holiday to Spain? We all got it wrong! He advised that you need to use about 35g of at least factor 15 cream every hour while sunbathing to ensure adequate protection (and even more if swimming)...so about 200ml per day per person is required - a sobering wake-up call for us all to recommend and use plenty of sun screen! |
