‘One of the key medicines optimisation projects that Newcastle Gateshead CCG is working on this year is around optimisation of inhaled medication. Whilst a lot of the work will be driven by GP practices, they hope to use the skills of community pharmacists through NMS/MUR consultations to support this work.
Through working with Napp Pharmaceuticals, the CCG have been able to secure an In-Check device and a supply of Flo-tone devices for all community pharmacies in the Newcastle Gateshead CCG area. These will be delivered during the month of September. In-Check and Flo-Tone are devices that can be used during NMS/MUR consultations to teach patients the optimal inspiratory flow rate for their inhaler. The benefits will be seen through ensuring appropriate inhaler devices are prescribed, improving inhaler technique and increasing confidence of patients to self-care.’ To support this initiate a meeting is being put on to give pharmacists in Gateshead and Newcastle a respiratory update as well as the info needed about the project and the devices. The meeting will provide the CPPE Advanced inhaler technique workshop. For those pharmacists who recently have done this we will be filming the other parts of the meetings for you to view on line. So there is no need to attend. The meeting will be held on the 26th September at the Quality Hotel Boldon. Refreshments will be provided from 6pm with the meeting to start at 6.30pm You can book on to the meeting using the form below and the Agenda can be downloaded here ![]()
