![]() Price Waterhouse Coopers (PwC) is conducting an independent assessment of the social value of community pharmacy for PSNC and we are calling on community pharmacy teams to get involved to make sure this work provides an accurate picture of the services that pharmacy teams provide up and down the country. The work being undertaken by PwC will help the ongoing community pharmacy campaign by providing a robust evidence base to use in discussions with stakeholders and in future negotiations. We therefore strongly encourage all pharmacy teams to get involved in this work to help highlight the social value that your pharmacy brings to your community. Pharmacy teams can get involved by assisting with two easy to complete activities: Activity 1: Survey on additional activities relating to dispensing prescriptions Participation in a short survey on the number of additional activities that your pharmacy team has provided in relation to dispensing prescriptions, for example, delivery of medicines and provision of monitored dosage systems. A survey form is available to collate this information, and your answers can then be submitted to PSNC and PwC via an online form on the PSNC website. Please submit your response to the survey by 5th June 2016. Activity 2: Data collection on ‘advice on self-care or OTC medicines’ Completion of a simple data collection form over a seven-day period (from Wednesday 1st June to Tuesday 7th June) to record how many times advice on self-care or on the use of over-the-counter medicines has been provided. Once this data has been collected, we are asking that it is submitted to PSNC and PwC via an online form on the PSNC website. Further information, along with the data collection forms and links to the online forms can be found at psnc.org.uk/pwc.

PSNC has published its response to the Government’s letter from 17th December 2015 entitled “Community pharmacy in 2016/17 and beyond”.
Within the response, PSNC makes clear that the proposals contained in the letter represent a major threat to the future availability of accessible healthcare, support and advice from community pharmacies. PSNC are concerned that this threat has not been made clear to the public nor to their representatives, and that the policies underpinning the letter have not been based on analysis of the likely consequences or costs to the public as patients, members of our communities, or taxpayers. The response also highlights that whilst PSNC is willing and keen to work collaboratively to achieve change, proper, informed negotiations between the Government and PSNC have been made impossible by the lack of clarity, detail or analysis of the issues raised by the letter. PSNC’s response sets out the following key principles:

As the consultation on community pharmacy in 2016/17 and beyond came to a close yesterday there was a flurry of activity at westminster to help highlight the pharmacy case to MP's and ministers. The NPA and PSNC held events in Westminster which included a Pharmacy Health Checks and Speed Briefing event in Westminster, A adjournment debate held in the commons as well as the handing over of the public petition to Downing Street by MP's, Pharmacist and Patients.
Downing Street Petition

This is the largest Uk healthcare petition ever and demonstrates the how much people value their local pharmacy. Press briefings were held and then a delegation of pharmacists, patients and MP's delivered the petition to No 10. NPA Chairman, Ian Strachen has started a blog on the NPA website. He has been campaigning tirelessly on behalf of the Community pharmacy and has some words of encouragnemt about the campaign and how it doesn't stop now. Read his first blog (titled - Winston Churchill once said "Never give in - never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in.") Here.

Pharmacy health checks and speed briefing event
Around 50 MPs attended a Pharmacy health checks and speed briefing event in Westminster yesterday (Tuesday 24th May 2016) to hear about the vital work that community pharmacies do for patients and concerns about the proposed funding cut for the sector. MPs heard how the plans are putting some pharmacy services at risk and the impact that could have on patients.
The drop-in speed briefing session, hosted by Sir Kevin Barron MP and Michael Dugher MP, gave Parliamentarians and their staff the opportunity to find out what is happening in pharmacy, as well as the chance to receive a health check from a front-line pharmacist.
Pharmacists and national representatives were on hand to brief MPs and their staff on the important contribution which pharmacies make to their local communities, and to discuss how they could do more to support the overstretched NHS.
Adjournment Debate
At the end of the day MP's can debate certain issues in what is called an Adjournment debate. This is held in the commons. Micheal Dugher MP_ has been very supportive of our campaign and led this debate. You can watch the debate below ![]() The downing street petition has now been signed by nearly 1.5 million people. The national bodies are arranging a delegation of MP's, Pharmacists and Patients to present it to No 10 on the 24th May. It is really important that you all fax your remaining petitions to the NPA by close of business tomorrow. (20th May). The numbers you can use are FAX 01727 800 415 or FAX 01727 800 420 or FAX 01727 800 425 The NPA will still take petitions signed up to June however for maximum impact it would be great to have as many in by tomorrow as possible. We understand that PSNC will have a presence in Westminster on that day also so if you are in contact with any MP's please let them know they can speak to the PSNC on the day for further information. |
