Think Carer! Single Point of Contact (SPOC) service
The Carers’ Drug and Alcohol Network launches the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) service throughout South of Tyne and Wear and the Think Carer DVD!
The animated Think Carer Video below was created by First Contact Clinical in partnership with students from Northumbria University's School of Design. It shares what it’s
like to be a carer of someone with substance misuse issues and uses real
stories to tell us what can help carers improve their lives.
What is the SPOC?
People don’t often recognise themselves as carers so we created the SPOC; a confidential telephone signposting service for carers of people using drugs or alcohol in Gateshead, South Tyneside and Sunderland. Any Pharmacist, GP, health and social care professional can easily signpost Carers to the vital support they need such as advice, one to one support, groups or short breaks.
How does it work?
Ask your customers if their family or friends would benefit from some advice and support about drug or alcohol use or if they have a caring role themselves. The caring role can be anything from emotional support to practical housework chores. If they say yes then please ring any of these numbers below giving the carer’s name, telephone number and consent to contact them and the SPOC worker will do the rest…..it’s that simple!
