NHS Stop Smoking ServicesAll change to current servicesAt the end of this year the stop smoking service will be changing and the current service, as it is now, will no longer exist. The Tier 3 specialist service will come to an end and the Tier 2 service (which most pharmacies provide) will change to include patients who traditionally access the service from Tier 3 providers. The new service will be called "Active Intervention" Service and will be commissioned by each PCT area Gateshead , South Tyneside and Sunderland. Contractors should sign up to this new service to ensure they can still provide Stop Smoking Services in their Pharmacies. You need to act now to ensure your Pharmacy can
still provide stop smoking services. Pharmacies need to do 2 things 1. Sign the New SLA for Active Intervention and return to their commissioner as soon as possible 2. Ensure their Staff are trained up to be able to provide services to patients who traditionally went to the specialist Tier 3 providers. In Particular these new patient groups include:- . People with Mental Health problems · Young People · Pregnant women TrainingTraining is available through First Contact Clinical and their current schedule of training is listed below. The LPC is in discussion with public health about future dates and we will post them here as they become available. Pharmacies need to ensure their smoking services advisers attend both modules.

All the documentation will be posted on this page below as it becomes available from each area so keep an eye on this page. Once the documentation is available please ensure you send it back as soon as possible to ensure continuity of your current service. Once training has been completed the smoking cessation advisor's will be able to provide the service to the additional groups highlighted above. Please note that this service level agreement runs up to 31st March 2014 and in recognition of the additional training and skills required to work with priority groups the fee structure. (This will be detailed in the SLA) The new payment structure for the service will be applied from the date the PCT receive your signed documentation and the necessary training has been completed.
